First Police Commissioner App Launches in Gwent
The App provides residents with an interactive look at the activities of Ian Johnston and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) across Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.
It also provides the latest OPCC news, information about the Commissioner, his priorities and the meetings he attends.
The App is part of a commitment made by the Commissioner to engage as widely as possible with residents, and to ensure that those who wish to access information and contact him on their mobile devices are able to do so.
The App has five main sections; About Me, My Priorities, My Diary, News and Contact Me.
Paul Harris, the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, believes the App will have a positive effect in introducing new interest to the work of the OPCC, he said;
"It is really important that we stay current and use the most popular ways of communicating with the people of Gwent and this is a great example of the commitment we are making to do this.
"The App is straightforward to use and provides a welcoming and easy to use online environment for people to find out more about our work.
"We will continue to use other tried and tested methods of communication, but I think launching the App and running that alongside our website, Twitter and Facebook pages we are reaching a whole new audience."
The App is available in English and Welsh and was developed by the Gwent Police Digital Communications department. It is designed for, and currently works only on iPhones, however there are plans for roll out to other devices in the very near future.
