PCC Looks to Appoint Deputy
The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, is looking to appoint a Deputy to take on specific lead responsibilities and deputise for him in carrying out his core functions.
The overall responsibility of the Police and Crime Commissioner is to maintain an effective and efficient police service and to play a leading role in crime prevention and community safety in the force area. To assist him in his role, Jeff Cuthbert is seeking to appoint a Deputy PCC who will contribute to the development of his police and crime initiatives and lead on the delivery of major projects which are seen as being critical to his manifesto.
The successful applicant will be expected to maintain and build key relationships with senior officers and managers at Gwent Police and work with external bodies such as criminal justice partners, local authorities and the voluntary sector on joint projects and initiatives.
Mr Cuthbert has made it clear that this is not a politically restricted post but he does expect applicants to subscribe to his values and principles which include:
- A commitment to social justice and fairness. This includes working with the most vulnerable individuals and communities;
- Empathy with victims of crimes and particularly, but not exclusively, those affected by domestic and child abuse, hate crime and violence;
- An acceptance of the importance of partnership working with all public services and the third sector as appropriate;
- The importance of building and improving community cohesion, especially with different ethnic and faith communities.

The appointment of a Deputy will play an important part in supporting my work of engaging with as many communities as possible and ensuring that residents have direct input into the type of policing they want to see locally. The Deputy will play a key role in supporting me to develop a proactive police and crime plan for Gwent as we work closely with our partners, the Force and the community to prevent crime and tackle anti-social behaviour. The role presents an exciting opportunity for someone to take on specific lead responsibilities and deputise for me in many of my statutory functions.
