Building on their previously individual equality plans, in 2016 the Commissioner and Chief Constable published a Joint Strategic Equality Plan 2016-2020 which continues their joint commitment to ensure that respect for equality, diversity and human rights underpins the work of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Gwent Police.
The Strategic Equality Plan (SEP) is based on the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s guidelines provided to devolved public sector bodies in Wales. It draws together information about the organisation, its commitment to equality and other related information that supports the equality objectives.
Our SEP brings together all our equality commitments and explains how we carry out our legal duties and responsibilities under equality legislation.
This also means that the way in which we monitor and scrutinise Gwent Police’s performance in relation to equality and diversity matters can be more closely linked to their own objectives.
Each year, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Gwent Police will publish an Annual Equality Report that highlights progress against the objectives within the SEP.
