New Police Complaints System

The Policing and Crime Act 2017 (the Act)introduced changes to the Police Complaints system which provided Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) with the opportunity to take greater control over complaints against police officers.  These changes were implemented on 1st February 2020.  The Professional Standards Department (PSD) within Gwent Police is now the sole point of contact for complaints about all police officers and police staff except the Chief Constable.  Complaints against the Chief Constable will still be dealt with by the OPCC.

Should you wish to make a complaint, you will have a single point of contact making it clear who you need to speak to and reducing delays.  The unit dealing with complaints is known as the Public Response Unit.

Under the new Regulations, the PCC has responsibility for any review you may wish to request after PSD have undertaken their investigation.  This ensures that the review process is independent of Gwent Police. 

Complaints against the PCC or the Deputy PCC continue to be dealt with by the Police and Crime Panel (PCP).


Complaints in relation to the Welsh Language Standards

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Gwent has established a procedure to deal with any complaints received in relation to it's compliance against the Welsh Language Standards.
