What is the purpose of the Public Response Unit (PRU)?

The PRU are responsible for facilitating the swift resolution of your dissatisfaction/concern or passing on your compliment by liaising with the appropriate point of contact within Gwent Police.

We aim to resolve your dissatisfaction or concern as quickly and effectively as possible in order to prevent it escalating into a complaint.


If a Gwent Police officer or police staff member has acted above and beyond their role, the PRU are keen to hear about it, along with any other positive experiences or views you may wish to bring to our attention.

We welcome your feedback and can assure you all compliments received are very much appreciated by the officers and police staff members.

We understand there may be times when you’re unhappy with the service you’ve received from Gwent Police. It may be that you want the matter of concern dealt with rather than making a formal complaint. 

By contacting the PRU with your concerns, you give us the opportunity to put things right as quickly and effectively as possible and to identify areas for improvement to ensure the same issues do not arise again.

However, should your concern be regarding the conduct of an officer (other than the Chief Constable), the PRU will refer your concern to the force Professional Standards Department who are the appropriate authority to decide whether a complaint should be recorded under the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 in accordance with the Independent Office of Police Conduct Statutory Guidance.

Complaints in relation to the Welsh Language Standards

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Gwent has established a procedure to deal with any complaints received in relation to it's compliance against the Welsh Language Standards.
