Strategic Equality Plan published

30th October 2020

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent and Gwent Police have published a joint Strategic Equality Plan for 2020 – 2024.

The plan was completed following a public engagement exercise with residents across Gwent. Its purpose is to help both organisations to:

  • Provide a police service that reflects the communities it serves;
  • Foster an organisational culture that demonstrates the importance of equality and inclusivity; and
  • Deliver a high-quality service that Gwent’s diverse communities are confident to use and engage with.

Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert said: “The Strategic Equality Plan embeds the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion into everything undertaken by my office and Gwent Police. It aims to challenge discrimination and links to my Police and Crime Plan for Gwent, which sets out local policing priorities.

“These priorities are now more important than ever. The police service polices by consent and we must gain the trust and confidence of our communities through transparent, fair and ethical application of the law.

“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to have their say on the plan.”
