Stay safe and stay local

19th June 2020

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, has commented following the latest Coronavirus briefing from the First Minister.

He said: “The First Minister has, today, announced further relaxing of the Coronavirus restrictions.

“Non-essential shops can reopen from Monday and we are now starting to understand what our new normal will look like.

“For now, the advice to stay local, within five miles of your home, remains in place for the majority and I would urge residents to follow this advice.

“We must also continue to avoid large gatherings and, while I fully support the motives and objectives of the Black Lives Matter movement, I would urge anyone wishing to protest to consider other ways of having their voices heard.

“We still have some way to go and avoiding mass gatherings and unnecessary travel will help reduce the risk of a second spike further down the line.”
