Police and Crime Commissioner welcomes Government overhaul of family courts

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, has welcomed the UK Government’s commitment to give greater protection to victims of domestic abuse and their families.

The government has announced a major overhaul of the family court system that will include measures such as separate entrances and waiting rooms at court buildings, more powers for judges, and new investigative court processes to avoid conflict.

Jeff Cuthbert said: “This is something that victims have been calling for, for some time and I am reassured to see action being taken.

“All too often the current system fails victims and their children, causing serious harm over many years.

“This review has been led by experts taking a victim-centred approach, and will help protect some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”
