Crime Survey for England and Wales

24th January 2020

The latest Crime Survey for England and Wales shows that Gwent remains one of the safest places in the UK - www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/bulletins/crimeinenglandandwales/yearendingseptember2019

There was a small rise in recorded crimes during September 2018 - 19. I am reassured that this can be attributed to improvements in recording practices and increased confidence from victims to report crimes to Gwent Police.

The figures do show a UK-wide rise in fraud cases, driven by an increase in bank and credit account fraud.

If you have been a victim of online fraud you should report it to the national agency Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. Action Fraud will liaise with Gwent Police as appropriate.

Gwent Police also offers a range of advice on staying safe online on their website.
