Briefing with UK policing minister

At the end of the last week I joined a meeting with the UK policing minister, Kit Malthouse.

This is a regular opportunity for PCCs to be briefed by the UK Government and I welcome their commitment to engaging at a local level.

The minister told us that the Government is still planning to hold Police and Crime Commissioner elections next May. In Wales this would take place at the same time as the Welsh Government elections.

We also discussed the Government’s plan to introduce Covid marshals, which they announced in September. It is unclear at the moment exactly how this will work in Wales and we look forward to more details soon.
