Breaking down barriers

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, joined the Chief Constable of Gwent Police, Pam Kelly, for an online session with leaders from Gwent’s Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities this week.

Jeff Cuthbert said: “I was pleased to join the Chief Constable, policing colleagues and community representatives for an incredibly positive engagement session.

“This is our second meeting and this online forum is giving us an opportunity to speak directly to our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities and have some open and honest discussions.

“I was pleased to hear Gwent Police praised for acting on the issues raised in previous calls, particularly around the Pillgwenlly area, it is also clear that there are areas where we need to do more work.

“We know that the police cannot tackle all issues affecting communities on their own and the importance of youth workers in tackling issues from a young age came through strongly. As a former youth worker I understand just how important this is and this is something we will explore moving forward.

“These sessions are incredibly valuable, and I would like to thank everyone who took part for their feedback.”
