Stay safe and support the NHS
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, has reinforced calls for residents to stay home where possible and stay safe, following the Welsh Government’s announcement of a ‘firebreak lockdown’ from Friday 23 October until Monday 9 November.
Jeff Cuthbert said: “This is a short, sharp set of restrictions to help ease the pressure on the NHS and reduce the transmission of Covid-19 in the community as we head into the winter months.
“I would urge residents to follow the guidelines, work from home wherever possible and travel only when you have to. Do not gather indoors or outdoors with anyone other than those in your household. You can leave home to exercise but this should start and end at home.
“Gwent Police will continue with a strategy of education and encouragement in the first instance. However, these restrictions are very clear and where the police have to enforce them they will do so.
“If we all play our part now then, hopefully, we can avoid a longer, stricter set of restrictions in the future.
“Please follow the latest guidance from Welsh Government and your own local authorities in the coming weeks.”
