Remembrance Day
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, has commemorated Remembrance Day at a ceremony at the Gwent Police headquarters in Cwmbran.
He said: “The counties that today make up the Gwent region were not immune to the impact of the Great War, or the Second World War. Many lost their lives, including serving police officers who were drafted into service.
“Conflict across the world has continued to touch our communities in the years since 1945. Gwent is home to many veterans who have risked lives fighting for our freedom. Sadly, many others never returned home.
“Most of us, thankfully, will never know the horrors and hardships that our serving men and women have to endure. It is essential that we recognise and remember the sacrifices they made for us.
“I would like to take a moment and thank those veterans, and their families, for the important service they have given to their country.”
