PCC continues support for young people in Cwmbran

28th May 2026

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd has allocated funding to enable Cwmbran Centre for Young People (CCYP) to continue providing open‑access drop‑in sessions five nights a week.

Qualified youth workers deliver a varied programme of activities designed to build confidence, encourage participation and support social development. Young people also have access to a wide range of recreational facilities, including pool tables, a gym, table tennis, darts, music equipment and a newly developed gaming suite.

Staff carry out outreach work with young people in areas identified as hotspots for antisocial behaviour and maintain a regular presence in the town centre and surrounding communities.

Jane Mudd said: “Cwmbran Centre for Young People is ideally placed to offer children and young people a safe and secure environment, providing a positive alternative to spending time on the streets or in the town centre, where there is a risk of becoming involved in antisocial behaviour.

“As well as helping to safeguard young people, it reduces demand on frontline services, and I am pleased to continue supporting its work.”

The project supports the priorities set out in the Commissioner’s Police, Crime and Justice Plan and is partially funded using money recovered from the proceeds of crime. Community groups can apply to the fund for grants ranging from £1,000 to £50,000 to support local initiatives.

Ellie McCarthy from CCYP said: “Funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner has been vital in enabling the centre to remain open, inclusive and accessible to a wide range of young people, many of whom face significant challenges in their daily lives.

“Feedback from schools, social services and community partners consistently highlights the positive impact of the centre. This continued investment will allow our work to grow, strengthen community relationships and support even more young people across Torfaen.”
