Meet the Man with the Police and Crime Plan

19th December 2013

Engagement with the public is a top priority for Ian Johnston. With this in mind he is currently piloting a number of surgeries in the heart of communities throughout Gwent to enable members of the public to meet with him face to face, raise any comments or questions they may have around policing and hold him to account.

The next surgeries will beheld at the following locations:

  1. Tuesday January 28th 2014 (3m- 5pm), Newbridge Memo, Newbridge
  2. Wednesday January 29th 2014 (10am- 12pm), Newtown Community Centre, Newtown, Ebbw Vale
  3. Wednesday February 19th 2014 (2pm - 4pm), Nelson Community Centre, Nelson

Four surgeries have already been held in various parts of Gwent in January. From complaints about persistent anti-social behaviour to parking problems and campaigns to reduce speed limits in certain areas, the Commissioner has listened to the useful feedback received from members of the public and has been buoyed by the turnout for the surgeries held so far.

Urging people to come along to the remaining surgeries the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Ian Johnston, said: "I want to be visible to the people of Gwent so I can listen to what matters to them locally. I'm accountable to the public for the delivery of policing here in Gwent and on their behalf, not only do I hold the Chief Constable to account, I also have a Police and Crime Plan which lets people know what I expect policing to deliver for the region. The plan puts victims at the heart of everything we do and ensures that people here are less affected by crime and anti-social behaviour and are protected from serious harm."

He added: "In order to improve and provide a Police Service that is value for money, engagement with the public is and always will remain paramount. I'm urging people to register for these surgeries if they have any comments or questions relating to policing that they might want to discuss with me."

The surgeries will be an hour for group discussions and a further hour will be made for one to one sessions if required. To register your interest in attending the surgery or to book a one to one session with Ian Johnston, please email commissioner@gwent.pnn.police.uk or telephone 01633 642 200
