Have your say on draft strategic equality plan objectives

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent (OPCC) and Gwent Police are asking residents if they agree with four draft objectives for its forthcoming Strategic Equality Plan.

The Strategic Equality Plan is based on the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s guidelines and draws together information about the organisation, its commitment to equality and other related information that supports the equality objectives.

The draft objectives aim to support vulnerable people, ensure policing activities are carried out legitimately and proportionately, and foster positive relations between communities and policing.
Residents can have their say by completing an online survey: https://wh1.snapsurveys.com/s.asp?k=158497156022
Paper copies are also available on request.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, said:

“The Strategic Equality Plan will embed the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion into everything undertaken by my office and Gwent Police. It aims to challenge discrimination and links to my Police and Crime Plan for Gwent, which sets out local policing priorities.

I recognise that more can and should be done to identify the crimes that people are experiencing. It is our duty to provide the right support. Reducing the harm that people experience, particularly those who are vulnerable is so important.
The objectives need to ensure policing in Gwent, our services and how we conduct ourselves is fair and representative for all citizens.

I would like to hear how residents feel about the proposed equality objectives. The simple survey will take a few minutes to complete. It is available on our website and social media channels, while my team will also be sharing it with organisations and groups across Gwent to ensure people have an opportunity to have their voices heard.”
