Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner meeting with Bargoed Town Council

13th May 2013

During the meeting, in which the Commissioner presented his police and crime plan and listened to the local concerns of the Councillors, Mr Johnston confirmed that he had no plans to change the use of the station, which is used by Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team as a working base, and that he would be open to discussion with partners to maximise the use of the premises for the benefit of the community.

Mr Johnston stated that no decision would be made about the future of Bargoed Police station until there had been full consultation with the community, town council and Caerphilly County Borough Council. Mr Johnston said: "I can't stress enough the importance of engagement with the community and public consultation when deciding the use of police properties. There has been an ongoing review of the estates against the backdrop of meeting budget reductions. I'm looking to put in place a programme, to include engagement and communication, to take the estates strategy forward. Any decisions about the future of Gwent Police properties wont be made until the local authorities, town councils and the community have had their say,"
