Forensic property marking for Cwmbran residents
This week we visited Gwent Police’s We Don’t Buy Crime team which was out in the community in Cwmbran providing free forensic marking kits to residents living within the Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council area.
The kits were purchased by Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council and will help to make local residents safer in their community.
They contain a solution called Smartwater which residents can use to mark their property and which is unique to each address. The kits also include distinctive signs to warn that a property has Smartwater on the premises.
The We Don’t Buy Crime initiative is a proven way to tackle acquisitive crime such as burglary and theft. The team are also working to tackle the criminal supply chain, working with second hand retailers and other businesses to help them to be alert to stolen property.
I am pleased to see these kits being rolled out on such a scale in the community, and would urge other community councils to consider funding similar schemes in their area.
