21st July 2021

Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, has praised pupils and staff from Lewis School Pengam for their commitment to celebrating diversity and inclusion.

During the last week of term pupils took part in themed lessons which focussed on raising awareness issues including the Black Lives Matter movement, Islamophobia, disablism and homophobia

The weeklong celebration ended with the schools fourth annual PRIDE event.

The Commissioner, along with Mark Drakeford, First Minster for Wales, and Sally Holland, Children’s Commissioner for Wales, provided messages of support which were shown to pupils throughout the week and shared on social media.

Jeff Cuthbert said: “Celebrating diversity and inclusion is extremely important and I was delighted provide a message of support to the pupils at Lewis School Pengam. I would like to thank pupils and staff at the school for dedicating their time to offer pupils a range of opportunities to help understand the experiences of others.

“It’s so important that we value people for what they are. Understanding matters surrounding equality and diversity is vital for young people who will be living and working in our communities in the future.”
