Commissioner celebrates the lives of Gwent’s Windrush Generation

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jane Mudd joined partners and residents from diverse communities for the Pioneers of Wales project launch at the Riverfront Theatre Newport. The project is part of the Windrush 2026 Legacy Celebrations.

 

The Pioneers of Wales storytelling project will give the Windrush Generation a platform to share their voices and preserve their stories for the future, offering an honest insight into their social, cultural, and economic lives.

 

Commissioner Mudd said: ‘I was delighted to attend this fantastic event which marks achievements and promotes the legacy of our valued Windrush elders in Gwent and across Wales.

 

Our elders here in Gwent hold a special place in my heart. I am pleased to be able to continue to celebrate their lives and legacy to our communities year after year.

 

I would like to thank Age Alive and Newport and District 50+ Network for putting our diverse communities in the spotlight and for hosting at such an inspiring event.’

 

The Pioneers of Wales project will be led by Age Alive Newport and District 50+ Network in partnership with Windrush Cymru Elders, with support from Newport City Council. Funding has also been provided from the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Race Council Cymru and the Welsh Government.
