Mr Johnston also took the opportunity to see how BRfm are using a grant that he recently awarded from the Police Property Fund.

The Blaenau Gwent-based radio station received £5,000 from the fund to enable young people to participate in recording and mixing music as well as learning new skills.

While on air, Mr Johnston spoke about his first six months as Commissioner, his priorities for policing in Gwent and also answered questions from listeners on a variety of policing subjects.

He said: "I was pleased to return to BRfm and speak to listeners about issues that affect them most.

Importantly I was able to talk about how we can best meet their needs and also my desire for greater public engagement which will impact on public confidence and specifically for less police time and activity to be focused on levels of recorded crime"
