Caerwent man wins Community Hero Award
A man from Caerwent in Monmouthshire has been named a Community Hero as part of the Pride of Gwent Awards 2020/21.
Bernard Dawson created a community initiative to support local people who were shielding or vulnerable during the covid pandemic, offering support with shopping, collecting medication and even dog walking.
He won the Community Hero Award at the annual ceremony, which recognises those people who live and work in Gwent who have made an outstanding contribution to their communities.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert sponsored the Community Hero Award together with Gwent Police. He said: “Congratulations to Bernard who has done a fantastic job supporting vulnerable people in his community.
“Gwent is full of people like Bernard who have played an instrumental part in looking after the vulnerable people in their communities, and I would like to thank every one of them for the crucial part they have played keeping people safe during this pandemic.”
