Poppy Appeal launch

23rd October 2025

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd joined veterans and members of the local community in Blackwood on Thursday to launch this year’s Poppy Appeal in Gwent.

Hosted by the Blackwood and District branch of the Royal British Legion, veterans, schoolchildren, and community members came together to mark the beginning of the appeal, which raises millions each year to support the armed forces community.

The event began with a short church service followed by a parade through the town where members of the public lined the streets to show their support, and culminated in a two-minute silence.

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “The Poppy Appeal is a powerful symbol of remembrance, resilience, and gratitude. It’s a time when communities come together to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served, and continue to serve, our country.

“Beyond remembrance, the Poppy Appeal provides vital support to members of the armed forces community, ensuring that help and support are available in times of need.

“I wish the Royal British Legion every success in the months ahead and I look forward to standing alongside our communities in November as we pay tribute to the extraordinary men and women who work so hard at such great risk to keep us safe.”
