Police and Crime Commissioner opens interfaith event

18th March 2019

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, opened an interfaith event at the Riverfront Theatre in Newport on Thursday 14 March.

The event, titled We are Wales; Faith, Religion, Policing and You, was designed to give those working in the policing world a better understanding of the issues facing faith communities.

Delegates took part in a variety of workshops and also heard first-hand accounts from speakers from faith communities.

Mr Cuthbert said: “I want Gwent to be a place where people can live, work and visit without fear of experiencing hatred of any kind, including religious intolerance.

“Understanding faith and religion is vital if the police are to build confidence and cohesion within local communities, and events like this help us to work together to create a stronger, more understanding society.”

This event took place before the horrific shootings in New Zealand. You can read a full statement on the incident here.
