PCC sponsors new street football league
A new street football league is kicking off in Newport this summer.
StreetSoc, run by the Bengal Dragons Foundation and sponsored by Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd, is transforming Sunday afternoons at Pill Millennium Centre into a celebration of teamwork, energy, and local pride.
Open to players aged 16 and over, the fast-paced, eight-a-side matches are a powerful tool for building bridges between communities.
Teams from across Newport are coming together to complete in the league, which aims to promote healthy lifestyles, and steer young people away from antisocial behaviour.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “StreetSoc is exactly the kind of grassroots initiative that makes a real difference. It’s not just about football, it is about connection, opportunity, and creating a sense of belonging.
“I’m proud to support a project that’s helping young people stay active, make friends, and feel part of something positive in their community. I wish all the teams well over the coming weeks and can’t wait to attend the final in September.”
