PCC joins volunteers to inspect Gwent’s custody suites
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd has joined volunteers to inspect Gwent Police’s custody suites.
The Commissioner accompanied independent custody visitors during an inspection of conditions and the welfare of detainees at Gwent Police’s custody suite in Ystrad Mynach.
Independent custody visitors are volunteers who conduct unannounced visits to Gwent Police’s custody units to check on the treatment of detainees, the conditions in which they are being held, and to ensure that their rights and entitlements are being upheld. The scheme is managed by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Commissioner Mudd said: “It was insightful to join the custody visitors and see first-hand the rigorous processes they follow to ensure that Gwent Police are held to the highest standards and that detainees are treated appropriately.
“They play an important part in helping my office to ensure robust scrutiny and transparency in the work of Gwent Police, and I am incredibly grateful to them for giving their time to do this important work.”
