Key Decision Makers Face ‘Question Time’ From Young People

14th March 2019

Key decision makers were grilled by young people last night at the ‘Gwent Youth Question Time’.

Hosted by members of the Gwent Regional Youth Forum and sponsored by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), the event gave young people from across the county the opportunity to ask questions on topics which matter to them.

Some of the topics discussed during the evening included knife crime, mental health, anti-social behaviour and homelessness

Acting as hosts for the evening were Maisey, Charlie and Lauren, all members of the Regional Youth Forum and Members of Youth Parliament for their local authority areas.

Speaking after the event, Member of Youth Parliament for Caerphilly commented on the success of the evening, “As members of the Regional Youth Forum and Youth Parliament, it is our responsibility to ensure the voices of young people are heard to and listened to.

”There are many issues troubling young people across Gwent, but tonight has reassured us that those who can make a difference are listening to us and do want to help.”

One of those on the question panel was Police and Crime Commissioner, Jeff Cuthbert, he said, “It has been wonderful to see so many young people here tonight, the standard of the questions asked has been exceptional.

“I have always had a strong belief that we should listen to the views of young people, believing that they are vital to ensuring future public services are fit for purpose.

“I would like to offer my thanks to all the young people involved in tonight’s event.”

Mr Cuthbert was joined on the panel by Gwent Police Chief Constable, Julian Williams, Divisional Director, Dr Dave Williams, and Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Dr Liz Gregory.
