EYST marks milestone anniversary

13th May 2025

Representatives from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent joined community partners and supporters to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Ethnic Minorities & Youth Support Team (EYST).

Founded in 2005, EYST has grown into a vital resource for ethnic minority individuals and families, offering targeted programmes in education, employment, health, community safety, and social cohesion. In recognition of its outstanding service, EYST was honoured with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2022.

The anniversary event highlighted the organisation’s achievements and ongoing impact, including its partnership with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner which provides funding for EYST to run a weekly youth club in Maindee. This initiative provides a safe and welcoming space for children and young people, where they can access support for their physical and mental health, schoolwork, and social development.

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd sponsored the event. She said: “EYST is working in our communities across Gwent to support children and young people from ethnic minority communities, giving them a safe space and a safe face where they can turn to for help, support, and to have fun with their friends.

“I was pleased to sponsor this event and to celebrate the really good work the team at EYST has been doing for the last 20 years to make a difference for our communities.”
