Commissioner Welcomes Town Council to Bargoed Police Station

8th August 2013

The Council will use the office space to hold meetings, and Council Clerks will also work from the station a couple of days a week. In return they will make a contribution to the running costs of the station.

Mr Johnston said; "In April I said that I would be open to discussion with partners to maximise the use of the police premises for the benefit of the local community and I think this arrangement will definitely work well for the police force and the town council.

"We have had no choice but to review our estate against the backdrop of meeting budget requirements, and I think this is the best possible arrangement to suit both parties and to help us secure the future of the station which I know is very important to local residents in Bargoed."

Leader of Bargoed Town Council, Cllr Tudor Davies added;

"The Town Council is thrilled to be working alongside Gwent Police on this exciting move. The building is an iconic part of the history within Bargoed, and we are delighted to be securing it for future generations.

"A new meeting chamber and open plan office will be created, allowing an enhanced working environment for our Clerk and members, and the location in the centre of Bargoed will allow excellent access for the public. This will mean that those who need to find us can do so easily.

"The building is also more DDA friendly than our current premises, and furthermore the move will allow the Town Council to make considerable financial savings over the coming years".

The Town Council will take up residence in the coming months following minor building alterations.
