Commissioner to attend all Wales quiz final

7th February 2013

The Programme provides information and resources for teachers, pupils, parents, officers and focuses on three main themes that of drug and substance misuse, social behaviour and community and personal safety. The Core Programme is jointly funded by the Welsh Government and the four Police Forces of Wales.

Part of the programme involved pupils from across Wales competing in an all Wales quiz. The questions were based on lessons from the programme, and pupils had to use their knowledge and know-how to answer questions aimed at helping them adopt safe and healthy lifestyles. The winners of each of the four regional events qualified for the all Wales final

Competing on behalf of Gwent are pupils from Caldicot Comprehensive who beat Rougemont, Caerleon CS, St. Martin's CS and Tredegar CS in a closely fought regional qualifier.

The Commissioner commented:

"I'm delighted to be attending the all Wales final and look forward to seeing the young people putting the knowledge they have gained from the programme into practice. Whilst I will of course be cheering on Caldicot Comprehensive as the Gwent representatives, I also wish the other schools well.

"The All Wales School Liaison Core Programme is an excellent example of the all four police forces in Wales, the Welsh Government, local education authorities and schools working together to help young people stay safe."
