PCCG-2013-052  Stop and Search Dip Sampling Exercise March 2013

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent has monitored the dip-sampling exercise undertaken on 13th March 2013.

In January 2013, the Commissioner decided to implement a stop and search dip-sampling procedure to be undertaken on his behalf by a dip-sampling group (Decision Log Number PCCG-2013-001) consisting of members from the Independent Advisory Group (IAG) who undertake the exercise as members of the community.

A total of 150 stop and search records, selected at random, were examined during the exercise with the results fed back to the Force. Overall the quality of the records was found to be satisfactory.

The Chief Constable has noted the identified trends and will look into the concerns raised.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent has agreed to hold the meetings of the Strategy and Performance Board (SPB) in public from May 2013.

The SPB is the decision making forum for the Police and Crime Commissioner. It monitors force performance and holds the Chief Constable to account to ensure an efficient and effective police force on behalf of the public across the whole of Gwent.

The meetings will be held in each of the five local authority areas in Gwent, these being: Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, and Torfaen.

In accordance with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner published its Equality Objectives within a Strategic Equality Plan. As part of the duty under the Act, there is a requirement to publish an annual report on progress against the objectives.

In support of the progress report the Commissioner has also agreed to publish the easy-to-read documents 'Information about your Police and Crime Commissioner' and 'Strategic Equality Plan and Equality Objectives 2012-2016'.
