Code of Practice for Victims of Crime

Information for Victims of Crime

If you have been a victim of crime, you are entitled to certain information and support from criminal justice organisations such as the police and the courts.

The Victims’ Code  is a Government document which explains what you can expect from these organisations from the moment you report a crime until after a trial has finished. Information is available to help victims understand their entitlements under the Code:

Victims of Crime - Understanding the support you can get

Victims of Crime - Understanding the support you should get (easy read version)

Code of Practice audio version

Information is also available for young victims of crime, who are included within the Code of Practice:

Victims of Crime - Understanding the support you should get

The Victims' Code applies to all victims of criminal offences under the National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS) and sets out the services to be provided to victims of crime in England and Wales by criminal justice agences.

Police and Crime Commissioners are included within the Code as a "service provider".
