As well as setting the strategic direction of policing, the Commissioner will work in partnership and with the community to bring about reductions in crime.
This could involve commissioning services, including those for victims of domestic abuse, drug-misusing offenders or closely managing prolific and priority offenders to reduce reoffending rates.
Role of the Police and Crime Commissioner in reducing crime
The Commissioner will:
- ensure that the police respond effectively to public concerns and threats to public safety
- promote and enable joined up working on community safety and criminal justice
- increase public confidence in how crime is cut and policing delivered
The Commissioner will provide strong local leadership in the drive to cut crime and keep communities safe across a range of agencies and partnerships. Working with other local leaders, the Commissioner will aim to improve outcomes for communities, and ensure that local resources are used effectively and efficiently.
