Complaints against the Police and Crime Commissioner or Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner

Criminal complaints against the Police and Crime Commissioner and their Deputy will be handled by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). Non-criminal complaints will be handled by the Police and Crime Panel.

Independent Investigation

If there are any allegations of criminal behaviour against the Commissioner or Deputy, the IPCC will be duty bound to investigate.

It's important that these complaints are dealt with independently and in a transparent way to maintain or reinforce confidence in the Commissioner and their role.

Where a complaint is not serious enough to require investigation by the IPCC, it will be handled by the Police and Crime Panel who are there to monitor and scrutinise the Commissioner.

Complaints against the Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner should be sent

Contacting the Police and Crime Commissioner

The Commissioner’s role is to ensure the policing needs of local communities are met as effectively as possible.

If you have a more general complaint about how they are doing that, or if you have concerns about crime and policing in your area that you feel aren't being met, then you should let your Commissioner know.

The Commissioner is responsible for investigating complaints against the Chief Constable of Gwent Police.  Statutory guidance from the IPCC for dealing with complaints against the Chief Constable can be found on their website.

Complaints against other officers or Force police staff are not investigated by the Commissioner.  However, the Commissioner is responsible for monitoring all complaints made against officers and staff.
