Welsh Language

The Welsh Language Measure came into force on 9 February 2011 and established the position of the Welsh Language Commissioner.  The Measure also introduced standards relating to the Welsh language which will replace current Welsh language schemes.

The Compliance Notice for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent was issued on 30th September 2016. This document provides the standards that the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner are required to implement across the organisation.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent and Gwent Police are committed to the treatment of Welsh and English on the basis of equality when carrying out our public business and the administration of justice in Wales.

Our approach to the use of Welsh and English is based on:

  • the Welsh and English languages having equal status;
  • our aim to improve the provision of service to the public in the language of their choice.

A Welsh Language Strategy has been published to support the implementation of the standards.

Compliance under the standards will be published on this website annually.
