Disability Symbol User

Disability Symbol User

As evidence of our commitment to employment, retention, training and development of disabled staff, Job Centre Plus has awarded us use of the Disability Symbol.

It is hoped that use of this symbol will help make it clear to people with disabilities that we welcome applications from them and are positive about their abilities.  It also demonstrates to existing employees that we value their contribution and that we will treat them fairly in the event that they become disabled.

In using this symbol, we have agreed with Job Centre Plus that we will take action on five specific commitments in order to try and create a more diverse workforce.

Commitment One:

Interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.

Commitment Two:

Ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss, at any time but at least once a year, with disabled staff what can be done to ensure they can develop and use their abilities.

Commitment Three:

Make every effort when staff become disabled to make sure that they stay in employment.

Commitment Four:

Take action to ensure that all Members, volunteers and employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work.

Commitment Five:

Each year, to review the five commitments and what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let staff know about progress and future plans.  This is done as part of the Annual Review of our Strategic Equality Plan and Objectives.
